Report: Islamic State Gains in Kobani as Fighting Intensifies

October 23, 2014

Advances made by the Islamic State overnight near the town of Kobani could inhibit future air drops to aid Kurdish fighters, Fox News' Greg Palkot reported Wednesday.

Focusing on the front lines, Palkot said, "We will show you what you should see is a brown berm in the distance, one of the Kurdish frontline firing all day into the countryside, that is where one a U.S. airdrop had gone and ammunition landed. That is where overnight they had taken a strategic hold."

IS's capture of a strategic hill west of Kobani will make it more difficult to "make future supply missions for these embattled Kurdish fighters," Palkot said.

"We have been witnessing a round of U.S. airstrikes pounding the center" that has followed "a lot of ISIS fighting that has intensified."

The recent surge in Islamic State attacks could be in response to Turkish President Erdogan's announcement saying 200 Kurdish fighters will soon join the fray. As it relates to IS, Palkot said, "It almost seems like they here a clock ticking and are moving on several fronts."
