After a man carrying a knife made it inside the front door of the White House on Friday, the Secret Service decided to step up its security--with a waist-high rounded-corner fence. The crowd-control barrier sits 12 feet in front of the existing wrought-iron fence, which stands at 7 feet 6 inches tall. The fence has not changed since the Lyndon B. Johnson administration.
