Kerry Reverses Course on Assad and Syria

Secretary of State John Kerry said Friday that a government transition in Syria will not include president Assad.

"You can have a transitional government [in Syria], which will not include president Assad" Kerry said during a Google Hangout Friday.

"The terms of the agreement of the first Geneva conference are that the transitional government has to be chosen by mutual consent and obviously the opposition the will never consent to Assad," he said.

Kerry's comments come just days after he told reporters in Russia that it was not up to him if Assad would be part of Syria's government transition or not.
