Ignatius Praises Trump's National Security Adviser Pick: 'McMaster Is the Real Deal'

The Washington Post's David Ignatius had nothing but praise on Tuesday for President Trump's national security adviser pick, Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster, a decorated combat veteran and military historian.

Ignatius said on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" that McMaster has all the necessary qualities to be the president's national security adviser.

"McMaster is the real deal," said the Washington Post columnist, who then touted the general's intellect.

"He is a warrior intellectual; he is someone who has made his name through his career speaking to power."

Ignatius praised McMaster's methods for shaping ideas to help in the war on terror.

"He was the shaper of the idea that we can push back, contain the violence," Ignatius said.

Ignatius later said McMaster's ability to recognize that Afghanistan's chief problem is its corrupt society highlights his qualifications for his new post.

"He had the insight that the problem in Afghanistan was it was a corrupt broken society, [and] unless you fix the corruption you couldn't fix the place."
