Ian Brzezinski: Pinprick Sanctions Have Done Nothing to Stop Putin

Former Bush administration official Ian Brzezinski criticized President Obama’s tepid response to Russian incursions into Ukraine Monday on Morning Joe.

Brzezinksi, the brother of Morning Joe host Mika Brzezinski, said "pinprick" sanctions like what the president is expected to unveil later today have done nothing to stop Russian aggression. The former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Europe and NATO policy recommended introducing "serious economic sanctions," increased military deployments to eastern Europe, and military aid for Ukraine to deter Russian president Vladimir Putin.

"I mean, the fact we're deploying only a company in Poland six weeks after this invasion which involved the mobilization of 150,000 Russian troops shows how inadequate our response has been. It's not being taken seriously by Putin," he said.
