U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley on Friday praised President Donald Trump's diplomacy ahead of his first trip to the U.N. to speak to world leaders, saying he "hugs" and "slaps" the right people in his upcoming address.
A White House reporter asked Haley about Trump's speech next week at the U.N. General Assembly and what might be said. While Haley didn't go into specifics, she did say that Trump knows how to act when dealing with each country.
"I personally think he slaps the right people, he hugs the right people and he comes out with the U.S. being very strong in the end," Haley said.
Haley confirmed that she has seen Trump's speech already. She said they were continuing to work on reform at the United Nations and said that finally the body is taking action on certain issues.
"We're creating an opportunity, we're making the most of it, we're moving foreign policy, we're changing the way peacekeeping is done, we're really bringing up human rights," Haley said.
With Haley leading the way, the United Nations has placed increased sanctions on North Korea due to its belligerent behavior regarding its nuclear program.
National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster joined Haley in speaking to the White House press Friday in the aftermath of North Korea firing a ballistic missile over Japan, the latest in a series of provocative acts by the rogue country.
