Haley: Iran Has Repeatedly 'Thumbed Its Nose' at UN Resolutions, It 'Must Stop'

October 18, 2017

United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley scolded Iran on Wednesday and urged the UN Security Council to adopt the Trump administration's approach to Iran by addressing the nation's "destructive conduct."

"The security council has repeatedly passed resolutions aimed at addressing Iranian support for  terrorism and regional conflicts, but Iran has repeatedly thumbed its nose at those efforts," Haley said. "Worse, the regime continues to play this council. Iran hides behind its assertion of technical compliance with the nuclear deal while it brazenly violates the other limits on its behavior."

Haley went on to say that the UN Security Council has allowed Iran to get away with violations, and that it "must stop."

She cited a long list of Iranian violations, ranging from cyber attacks and imprisonment of journalists to religious persecution, CBS News reported.

"I sincerely hope it will take this chance to defend not only the resolutions but peace, security and human rights in Iran," she said.

She also used the meeting, which was focused on "the situation in the Middle East," to take on Tehran’s ballistic-missile program and its support for Hezbollah and Syrian ruler Bashar Al-Assad.

"Judging Iran by the narrow confines of the nuclear deal misses the true nature of the threat," Haley stressed. "Iran must be judged in totality of its aggressive, destabilizing and unlawful behavior. To do otherwise would be foolish."

Israel's Ambassador Danny Danon echoed Haley's position and said the Persian Gulf nation is "guilty" of endorsing and sponsoring worldwide terrorism and human rights violations, according to CBS.

"Iran is guilty of sponsoring and endorsing worldwide terror, violating human rights, promoting anti-Semitism and seeking to destroy a U.N. member state, the State of Israel," Danon said.
