Top Egyptian politicians threatened to sabotage an Ethiopian dam while exchanging anti-Israel slurs during a Monday meeting with President Mohamed Morsi that was filmed without their knowledge.
"We shall resort to any option one can imagine in order to protect our water security," one lawmakers says about an Ethiopian hydroelectric dam that Egyptians fear would cut off their water reserves.
The lawmakers plot to bribe officials and even blow up the dam should their efforts to stymie construction fail.
The meeting was filmed and aired on Egyptian television, though several of the lawmakers appeared to be unaware of this. The Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) later translated the video.
"Ethiopia and Israel and the U.S., which are behind it, would use it as a lethal bargaining chip to pressure Egypt," another lawmaker said, according to MEMRI.
"If all these attempts [to sabotage the dam] fail, we may resort to our intelligence agencies in order to destroy any dam that undermines Egypt’s security," the lawmaker adds.
Morsi listens on as other lawmakers back the plot and continue to malign Israel as the U.S.
