Speaker John Boehner (R., Ohio) urged President Obama on Thursday to submit an Authorization for the Use of Military Force (AUMF) to Congress in order to "defeat and destroy" the Islamic State.
"Historically, the commander-in-chief has identified the need for the use of military force," Boehner said. "Thus far, we have seen no urgency on the part of this White House."
Boehner chastised Obama for not treating the terrorist threat with a sense of urgency, and needs to submit an AUMF in order for Congress to take lawful action against ISIL.
"The White House needs to show some urgency, because the strategy isn’t reversing the terrorist momentum on the ground," Boehner said.
"And I’ve got grave concerns that the president–that plan that he’s put in place is not going to accomplish the goal of defeating and destroying ISIL."
In order to remove the terrorist threat, "we need a more robust, comprehensive strategy," Boehner said.
