Biden: We Will Follow ISIL 'To the Gates of Hell'

September 3, 2014

Speaking at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in New Hampshire today, Vice President Joe Biden vowed to bring justice to ISIL terrorists, even if it means following them to the gates of Hell.

"When people harm Americans, we don’t retreat, and we don’t forget," Biden said. "They should know, we will follow them to the gates of hell until they are brought to justice, because hell is where they will reside! Hell is where they will reside!"

Referring to ISIL as a group of "barbarians," Biden used the strongest language yet out of any member of the Obama administration, including President Obama. Biden also alluded to the killing of Osama bin Laden and the national response to the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings as examples of American resilience in the face of terrorism.

"They somehow think that it’s going to lessen U.S. resolve, frighten us, intimidate us. But if they think the American people will be intimidated, they don’t know us very well," Biden said.

"The American people are so much stronger, so much more resolved than any enemy can fully understand."

Despite this strong language from Biden and today's declaration from Obama that "justice will be served," the White House has yet to lay out its strategy to counter the ISIL threat.
