2024 Man of the Year: Marc Elias

The Democratic Party's stenographers often refer to Marc Elias as a left-wing "superlawyer." So what's his power? The ability to help Republicans win elections while draining Democrats' campaign coffers, apparently.

It started in January, when Elias’s law firm successfully petitioned the FEC to allow its client, the George Soros-funded Texas Majority PAC, to work with the Texas Democratic Party on get-out-the-vote efforts.

But the gambit "played into GOP hands," the New York Times reported. In an ironic twist, the Trump campaign embraced the Elias-backed ruling and started working with a whale even wealthier than Soros: Elon Musk, the man worth more than Bezos and Zuckerberg combined, who promptly poured $200 million into groups that mobilized Trump voters in battleground states.

It was far from the only time that Elias's ethically dubious tactics brought shame to his party in the year 2024. Elias represented Bob Casey in his Hail Mary bid to overturn the results of the Pennsylvania Senate race. The Associated Press declared Republican Dave McCormick the winner on Nov. 7. "The race is not over," he declared the next day.

Except it was. With Elias at his side, Casey pushed for a recount. When the early returns from that recount lost him votes, Casey conceded, his legacy in tatters. Casey could have avoided the embarrassment. Elias ensured he didn't. What a guy.

Despite those failures, Elias remains the Democratic Party's top hired gun. The DNC and other liberal groups have paid his law firm more than $100 million since Elias started the firm in 2021—and another $650,000 in the wake of the November election.

Keep those payments coming, libs. And when you do, please make the check out to Marc Elias, Washington Free Beacon Man of the Year.
