Markey Dodges Question about Mass. Residency

Rep. Ed Markey won the Democratic primary for the Massachusetts Senate seat vacated by John Kerry last night.

Markey is under fire for his questionable Massachusetts residency and was asked about the issue in an interview on MSNBC Wednesday morning.

Markey dodged the question and quickly pivoted to a rant on "values."

CHUCK TODD: "The Boston Globe reports some Democrats quietly nervous that your residency, these questions about your home in Maryland versus how much time you spent in Massachusetts is going to be an issue. What do you say to that?"

MARKEY: "Well, I've lived in Malden, Massachusetts. I've lived in the same house for 64 years. This is really a campaign about my Malden values, who I vote for within the state of Massachusetts. When I go to Washington to vote the same way Elizabeth Warren, and Scott Brown, or Ted Kennedy have done, we bring our values with us. It is up to the people of Massachusetts to determine whether or not they want those values. I think people want a ban on assault weapons, I think people want a woman's right to choose protected, and I think they want social security and medicare protected. That's what this race is going to be all about, it's going to be about everyone else's family within the state of Massachusetts and which one of us is going to be best at protecting those families."
