Vivek Ramaswamy announced last week that he would appear on CNN in a town hall, but the network this week said it hadn't finalized the event with his campaign.
"Townhall with @CNN on Tuesday, Sept 12 in New York City," Ramaswamy posted on X Sept. 1. "We can handle the heat. Let’s see if they can too. Buckle up."
CNN, however, told Semafor that Ramswamy jumped the gun in his announcement and that the two teams had not scheduled the town hall.
"The information in Mr. Ramaswamy’s post is incorrect and there is not a CNN Town Hall currently planned for September 12th," a spokesperson told the outlet.
Ramaswamy's campaign disputed the network's statement.
"We had reached an agreement for September 12 in New York and even selected a moderator," Ramaswamy campaign spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin told Semafor. "CNN says they are looking for another date."
Four Republican presidential candidates have done town halls with CNN this cycle: former president Donald Trump, former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley, former vice president Mike Pence, and former New Jersey governor Chris Christie.
Ramaswamy has been criticized for flip-flopping on positions since he launched his presidential campaign. After he echoed a conspiracy theory in comments to the Atlantic about the September 11 attacks, he accused the publication of misquoting him. The Atlantic subsequently released the recording of the interview, proving it had quoted the 38-year-old entrepreneur correctly.
