FLASHBACK: College-Aged Vivek Ramaswamy Challenges Al Sharpton on Lack of Experience

August 29, 2023

A newly uncovered video shows Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy pressing Al Sharpton, who was running for president in 2003, about his lack of political experience.

"Of all the Democratic candidates out there, why should I vote for the one with the least political experience?" 18-year-old Ramaswamy asked Sharpton in the resurfaced MSNBC clip.

Sharpton pushed back and said he had the "most political experience" and not to "confuse people that have a job with political experience."

The clip comes as Ramaswamy faces the same accusations of having insufficient experience as he runs for president 20 years later.

Fellow Republican candidate Chris Christie slammed Ramaswamy for his political inexperience during this month's debate, comparing him to former president Barack Obama.

"The last person in one of these debates ... who stood in the middle of the stage and said, 'What's a skinny guy with an odd last name doing up here?' was Barack Obama," Christie said. "I'm afraid we're dealing with the same kind of amateur."
