The trial of a San Francisco sheriff accused of abusing his wife and endangering his child is scheduled to continue today.
Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi, a Democrat, is accused of domestic violence "and two other charges that led to a protective order preventing him from seeing his wife, Eliana Lopez," a former telenovela star, according to the Sacramento Bee.
The paper, which did not mention Mirkarimi’s affiliation with the Democratic Party, reports:
Mirkarimi is due back in court Wednesday for a pre-trial hearing, where prosecutors and defense attorneys will present motions to a judge prior to the start of the trial Friday.
The sheriff also was charged on Jan. 13 with child endangerment and dissuading a witness after authorities say he grabbed Lopez and bruised her upper right arm at their home on New Year's Eve.
