Rubio: 'Deliberate Effort' by Some in VA to Cover Up Scandal

Calls for Passage of New VA Management Accountability Act

Speaking before the Senate on Thursday, Sen. Marco Rubio (R., Fla.) expressed outrage about the VA Veterans scandal and rebuked individuals within the VA for attempting to cover it up.

"One of the things that we’re learning is not simply that there’s a systemic problem in the Veterans Administration, but that there’s been a deliberate effort by some within the administration, some within the Veterans Administration, to cover it up or to make things look better than they actually are," Rubio said.

He also echoed Rep. John Boehner’s request for the Senate to pass the new VA Management Accountability Act, which would make it easier to fire senior Veterans Affairs officials currently embroiled in the scandal.
