A Nebraska family now finds themselves at a crossroads: pay for an insurance plan that will nearly double their premiums, or pay a penalty.
Andrea Kodad was notified by her insurance company, Blue Cross Blue Shield, in October that her rates would be increasing.
Her current plan costs about $440 a month. Beginning January 1, Kodad’s will surge to $725.82 a month. The letter also told Kodad that her current insurance plan did not comply with Obamacare regulations.
Kodad shared her frustration with KMTV, "Now we have in-patient substance abuse care, and maternity [care]." She said that she already has two children and previously made the decision not to add to her brood.
Nebraska Insurance Commissioner Bruce Ramge says that doubled insurance premiums are only one of the many adverse impacts of Obamacare. More care is required under the law, thus the huge increase in rates, Ramge explained.
