Music legend Prince died of an opioid overdose earlier this year, according to a report Thursday.

The Associated Press reported that a law enforcement official close to the investigation into Prince’s death said that tests indicate the singer’s death was caused by an opioid overdose.

Prince was found dead at the age of 57 at his home in the area of Minneapolis, Minnesota, on April 21. Investigators have been looking into whether the pop star died of an overdose and whether a doctor was prescribing him medication in the weeks leading up to his death.

Many have speculated that Prince’s death was linked to opioid use. A law enforcement official told Fox News in late April that prescription drugs were found at Prince’s home when he died.

The music superstar died soon after cancelling concerts in St. Louis due to health concerns. Following a concert in Atlanta, his plane was forced to make an emergency stop in Moline, Illinois, so he could receive medical care less than a week before his death.
