Ed Show Goes Off on Obama Over Free Trade

'The president has got it totally wrong across the board'

MSNBC's Ed Schultz delivered an intense diatribe castigating Democrats and President Obama for supporting the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) free trade agreement Wednesday on The Ed Show.

The normally bombastic Obama flack is known for his pro labor ideology but rarely criticizes the president in such stark terms:

ED SCHULTZ: […] If you are truly in your heart for the middle class, you cannot go into this building and support TPP. The president has got it totally wrong across the board. As the hourglass as turned on the middle class in America, there's some real bad discussions going on about what we're going to do to fix it.

However, there is more to the story behind the TPP than Schultz lets on. The Washington Post reports there is significant data suggesting America will be a net winner if the deal goes into effect:

In the aggregate, it should make [Americans] richer: The Peterson Institute for International Economics estimates the U.S. will realize $78 billion more per year under its assumptions about what the TPP will include, and $267 billion annually if free trade is expanded to the rest of the Asia-Pacific region.
