Dowd: Credibility of Obama's Presidency At a 'Tipping Point'

November 15, 2013

ABC political analyst Matthew Dowd said President Obama's credibility is at a "tipping point" Friday on Good Morning America in the wake of Obamacare's mounting woes.

Obama's apologetic, meek press conference Thursday that sought to head off a tidal wave of negativity surrounding Obamacare's rollout and implementation has been the subject of intense scrutiny and criticism on the news. Even NBC White House reporter Chuck Todd said Obama was "at a low" in his presidency Friday on Morning Joe.

Dowd, a former advisor to President George W. Bush, was asked by former Bill Clinton advisor and Good Morning America host George Stephanopoulos whether this called to mind the impotent response by the government to Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

"I think what we could look at in two years or three years from now, I think we're going to look at this is as probably a tipping point in the credibility of his presidency. The same exact thing as you say, happened to George W. Bush," Dowd said. "It was a series of things, and Katrina, which is obviously qualitatively different than Obamacare, but at that point in time, his presidency and the relevancy of his presidency was over. I think that is exactly what we're seeing right now for President Obama."
