A petition to oust Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi has collected 13 million signatures as of Monday, the Times of Israel reports.
Iman al-Mahdy, spokesperson of the "Tamarod" or "Rebel" group leading the campaign, said the group will collect signatures through June.
"The Egyptian people are those who entrusted President Morsi [with the state] and they have the right to withdraw it," Mahdy said. "He breached the contract with the people, did not fulfill the revolutionary demands and issued a constitution contrary [to those demands]."
The campaign reflects growing discontent with Morsi over Egypt’s ailing economy, fuel shortages and a lack of security, as the president nears the end of a tumultuous first year in office."
The signature campaign calls for early presidential elections to remove Morsi from office.
