Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield will not be offering Obamacare coverage in Wisconsin, Ohio, and Indiana next year, the company just announced.
Anthem said there has been much difficulty with the planning and pricing of Obamacare's health plans because the individual market has been shrinking. In addition, the company said there have been many changes regarding rules, guidance, and operations with this type of coverage.
"The Wisconsin individual market remains volatile, making planning and pricing for ACA-compliant health plans increasingly difficult due to a shrinking and deteriorating individual market, as well as continual changes and uncertainty in federal operations, rules and guidance, including cost sharing reduction subsidies and the restoration of taxes on fully insured coverage," the company said.
Anthem made a similar statement regarding the Ohio exchange, citing a volatile market and lack of certainty and predictability.
The company will only serve one off-exchange medical plan in Menominee County in Wisconsin and in Pike County in Ohio. According to Reuters, Anthem will only offer one off-exchange plan in Benton, White, Jasper, Newton, and Warren counties in Indiana.
