Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei appointed Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as a member of Iran’s Expediency Council, a government body that has supervisory and arbitration powers over other parts of the Iranian government, the Tower reports.
"Considering the profuse experience you gained during eight years of worthy efforts, I appoint you as a member of the Expediency Council," a statement on Khamenei's website said.
The appointment comes just weeks after Ahmadinejad, who served as Iran’s president for eight years, said during a farewell ceremony that publicizing his Holocaust denial was one of his greatest achievements during his presidency.
