FBI Director Robert Mueller made minimal remarks regarding the ongoing investigation of the IRS before the Senate Judiciary Committee Wednesday morning.
Mueller said that because the investigation is ongoing he could not speak to specifics.
Responding to questions by Sen. Jeff Sessions (R., Ala.), Mueller stated that "over a dozen" agents have been assigned to the case and that it falls under the Washington office of assistant director Valerie Parlave. Mueller went on to state that the FBI headquarters has been monitoring the case as well.
Sessions stated that he had talked to some of the victims of the IRS targeting scandal and told Mueller they had yet to be contacted by the FBI. He said that the FBI’s actions are "too slow" and the bureau is "running behind."
Mueller said that the investigation is not languishing and that he understands there is a sense of urgency.
