Former Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly could start her career at NBC by interviewing Russian President Vladimir Putin.

NBC News chairman Andy Lack has been in Russia this week trying to secure an interview with the Russian president, according to Page Six on Tuesday. If Lack is successful, it is unclear which NBC reporter would interview Putin. NBC reporters Matt Lauer and Lester Holt are veterans of the network and could get the interview over newcomer Kelly.

One NBC insider told Page Six that Lack wishes to meet with Putin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. The insider added that no reporter has been chosen for the interview yet.

"It is not clear who would do the Putin interview. News chiefs decide based on who would be best for the job. This isn’t Megyn’s interview — yet," the insider said.

The interview would come at a time when the FBI is investigating Russia's ties to the Trump campaign and Russia is coming to the defense of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. If Kelly is picked for the interview, she would be broadcasted to all NBC networks and affiliates around the world, exposing her to an international audience.

Kelly, who left Fox News in January, is set to have her own daytime talk show which is scheduled to premiere this fall. She will also have a Sunday show that will debut as early as this summer.
