The "Big Boar contest", an iconic site at the Iowa State Fair, took place on Thursday. Only four entries made it to the barn but spectators didn't go away disappointed.

The Des Moines Register reports:

Three of the seven swine signed up for the 2013 Big Boar contest didn’t even bother to show up. They probably heard about 1,103-pound Otis’ cantankerous reputation and called it a day.

Even though Otis was a far cry from matching the Iowa State Fair’s all-time heavyweight boar at 1,259 pounds, he made up for it in pure stubbornness and guile as he avoided his destiny with the scale for nearly 10 minutes.
