Florida Town Spends $22,000 on Snow Plows

Government waste?

Streets in the Northeast will be dotted with snowplows tomorrow trying to clear up snow left from the storm, and streets in sunshiny Florida could very well be dotted with those very same snowplows.

Largo, a Tampa Bay area city, spent more than $20,000 in July on two new snow plows, ABC Action News reports.

The last measurable snow in Florida was back in 1977.

Brian Usher, Largo Public Works Director says that the newly purchased plows are the first of their kind in Florida. He admitted: "There were some dealers that kind of laughed at us and thought that we kind of lost our sanity looking for plow equipment in Florida."

The plows were met with disbelief from Largo residents, with one man huffing to ABC Action News "Get a bulldozer, they don’t need snowplows."

The city defends the purchase of the plows as they believe they will help in efforts to remove debris after strong storms, tornados, or hurricanes.
