CBS Panelist Swipes Alfred's Line From 'The Dark Knight' to Make Point About Trump

July 17, 2016

The Federalist's Ben Domenech seemed to borrow liberally from The Dark Knight Sunday to make a point about conservatives who got behind Donald Trump's candidacy for the Republican nomination.

"They are desperate for something different than the elites who have failed them for far too long," Domenech said on the CBS program Face The Nation. "But they have turned in their desperation to a man who they don't fully understand and who is not going to deliver on his promises."

His words were strikingly similar to Alfred Pennyworth's description of The Joker, the memorable Gotham City villain portrayed by Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight. As Alfred explains to Bruce Wayne, the city's criminals have beaten into submission by Batman and are looking to The Joker as a savior.

"You squeezed them, you hammered them to the point of desperation," Alfred says. "And in their desperation, they turned to a man they didn't fully understand."

So we made this video, because why not?
