Army Recruitment Office Forced to Remove 'God and Country' Poster

January 19, 2015

An Army poster outside of a recruiting office in Phoenix has been removed for having religious content.

A poster with the phrase "On A Mission For Both God And Country" was displayed on the sidewalk in front of the office until it was removed Monday morning after complaints.

Mikey Weinstein of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation called the poster a "stunning, unconstitutional disgrace," the Army Times reported.

The MRFF helped pressure the Army into removing the poster, and Feinstein said, "But whoever, in any way, shape or form, allowed that poster to be designed, prepared, and displayed, those individuals should be aggressively investigated and very visibly punished."

The poster was not commissioned by Army Recruiting Command. A local recruiter is believed to have added the phrase to a stock image and displayed it without getting prior approval.
