Air Force Band Treats Smithsonian Visitors to Surprise Christmas Concert

December 4, 2014

The Air Force Band showed its Christmas spirit to onlookers at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum this week, flash-mob style.

Video of the event shows surprised onlookers first noticed a single member of the band's woodwind section playing the opening lines of 'What Child is This?' as she walked past the space shuttle Discovery. She was then joined by two other members of the band.

Soon, the entire Air Force Band reveals themselves to the crowd and fills the James S. McDonnell Space Hangar with beautiful Christmas music.

The visitors who witnessed the holiday flash mob are visibly moved. Smiles are everywhere and as soon as the music ceases to fill the hangar it is replaced with raucous applause.
