Katy Perry Won Wisconsin For Obama

While "apathetic" may be the word that best describes the American public's attitude toward their president, FLOTUS's star-studded 50th birthday proved yet again that, for America’s celebrity class, selfies with Sunny Obama are the most valued currency. Sure beats bitcoin.

This is very much a quid pro quo friendship. President Obama has cashed in his celeb street cred throughout his career. He called on all sorts of favors from celebs in the 2012 election, but one in particular stands out. The favor was from a pop star appreciated by voters on both sides of the aisle. She needs no introduction.

Katy Perry graced us on the cover of this month's GQ.

The interview spans a variety of topics, from praying to God when she was younger for a, um, special dispensation of sorts (God is Good!), to her waiting for the opportunity to ask the president about the existence of aliens. I wouldn't hold my breath, Katy.

When she was asked about the 2012 campaign:

"I might have won Wisconsin for him," she says. "Actually, I didn’t do too much, but he called on me a couple of times. Which was very nice."

It was very nice for America as well.

While I'll be taking Katy's performance to my grave, here's a reminder of that November 2012 rally in Milwaukee.

Instead of drafting Paul Ryan as VP, Mitt Romney might have had Jenna Jameson paint "Believe in America" on her body and parade around Waukesha.

Considering Katy's post-election effort, Prism, had pitiful first-week sales, maybe she should have had called on the president to buy two copies for his daughters.

That would have been nice too.
