The owner of a computer consulting firm once employed by Mayor Cory Booker's campaign has been indicted on charges of tax fraud, tax evasion, and money laundering.

A former Newark City Hall aide, Maritza Falu was arrested in February during an investigation into alleged kickbacks, the Star-Ledger reports:

A former City Hall staffer, Falu was working at Alamo Insurance at the time of her arrest. The East Ward insurance broker has a contract with the city and was subpoenaed as part of the investigation, officials said. [...]

Prosecutors allege that between 2008 and 2011, Falu and her husband failed to file tax returns or filed false returns in an attempt to conceal income from several companies the couple owns together, prosecutors said. The couple could owe as much as $75,000, according to the indictment.

One of those companies, Latin Eagles, LLC — a computer consulting firm — shows up on Newark Mayor Cory Booker's campaign payroll as recently as July 2011. Other companies listed in the indictment are Impacto 2000 and L. Velez General Contractors.
