Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards on Thursday did not rule out a future in elective politics, responding "never say never" when asked whether she will pursue public office.
"What about you? Is there elective politics in your future," MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell asked Richards during an interview after discussing the Planned Parent president's mother, former Texas Gov. Ann Richards (D.).
"Who knows? Never say never," Richards responded.
Richards then stressed the importance of voting in the midterm elections this November.
Earlier in the interview, Mitchell played a clip of Richards' mother speaking at the 1988 Democratic National Convention.
"She was such a natural politician," Mitchell told Richards.
"She was," Richards said.
"It wasn't logical that a woman would be elected governor of Texas," Mitchell added.
"Absolutely," Richards agreed, saying that no poll ever showed her mom winning the 1990 Texas gubernatorial election, but that she did win because of an outpouring of grassroots support.
"I think we're going to see a lot of that this November," she said.
To close the interview, Mitchell showed Richards' new book, Make Trouble, and told Richards with a smile to "continue making trouble."
Richards is planning to step down as Planned Parenthood's president, according to press reports from earlier this year.
