On CBS's "Face the Nation" Sunday, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) said that "everybody should be pleased when a worker gets a raise," when host Nancy Cordes brought up the increasing number of companies doling out four-figure bonuses in response to Trump administration tax reform.
Cordes mentioned that the Republican-passed tax reform is gaining in popularity as some companies hand out wage hikes and thousand-dollar bonuses. The overhaul included a drastic cut to the corporate tax rate.
"Do you think that the public should be pleased that workers are getting another thousand dollars in their pockets?" Cordes asked.
"Well, sure. Everybody should be pleased when any worker gets a raise," Sanders said.
Like the rest of the Democrats he caucuses with, he was a vehement opponent of the Republican bill, called the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.
Sanders said that despite this, people should not neglect concerns that the tax cuts will contribute to the deficit.
"Billionaires and large multinational corporations do not need tax breaks, it is the middle class of families of this country who do," Sanders said.
