Obama Bundler Aids $7 billion Ponzi Schemer

Client convicted of defrauding 30,000 investors

Obama campaign bundler Marjorie Rawls Roberts helped a convicted white-collar criminal skirt U.S. tax laws, according to a Daily Caller follow-up on a Washington Free Beacon report from February 29. The Free Beacon reported that Roberts, who has committed to raising between $100,000 to $200,000 for the Obama re-election campaign, works as an offshore tax haven specialist in the U.S. Virgin Islands, helping her clients exploit offshore tax loopholes. The Daily Caller today identified one of her clients:

Roberts helped recently convicted $7 billion ponzi schemer R. Allen Stanford with his application for tax benefits from the U.S. Virgin Islands Economic Development Corporation. …

Stanford, who was convicted of defrauding 30,000 of his investors with bogus investments in his Antiguan bank while living a lavish lifestyle from the spoils of his scheme, owes hundreds of millions in back taxes. In early 2009, the Associated Press reported that the federal government placed four tax liens against Stanford, totaling about $212 million, between 2007 and 2008.
