Oregon State University offers a course on "Fat Studies" that teaches college students that fat shaming is a "social justice issue."

Campus Reform reported on the four-credit course to be offered in the spring. The university offers another course that examines whether "weightism" is a "system of oppression" like "sexism, racism, classism, heterosexism, ableism, and ageism."

Fat Studies focuses on privilege, intersectionality, and social justice.

The course "Examines body weight, shape, and size as an area of human difference subject to privilege and discrimination that intersects with other systems of oppression based on gender, race, class, age, sexual orientation, and ability," according to the Oregon State course catalog.

Additionally, Fat Studies "employs a multi-disciplinary approach spanning the behavioral sciences and humanities."

The course also "frames weight-based oppression as a social justice issue, exploring forms of activism used to counter weightism perpetuated throughout various societal institutions."
