New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R.) sparred with one of his constituents on Monday when he was guest-hosting Mike Francesa's sports talk show after the caller called him a "fat ass" live on the air.
"Governor, next time you want to sit on a beach that is closed to the entire world except you, you put your fat ass in a car and go to one that's open to all your constituents—not just you and yours," said a caller, who was introduced as Mike from Montclair, New Jersey.
"You know, Mike. I love getting calls from communists in Montclair," Christie said.
Mike responded by calling Christie a "bully" and said that he does not like bullies.
"I'm not the one who came on the air—swore on the air—you're swearing on the air, Mike. You're a bum," Christie said.
Both of them then sparred back and forth about optics, prompting the caller to ask Christie what he has done as governor.
"What I just did was stop polluting the airwaves with a guy like that," Christie said, laughing as he cut off the call.
Christie continued talking on the air about the people of Monclair and how they did not support him there.
"In my state in 2013, when I won 19 out of 21 counties and got 61 percent of the vote, you know I lost Montclair ... The editorial page editor of the largest newspaper lives in Montclair. This is a town that—let's just say to be charitable, leans leftward," Christie said.
Christie received heavy criticism over the weekend of July 4th when NJ Advance Media took aerial photos of Christie lounging with his family and friends on Island Beach State Park, which was forced to close due to a partial government shutdown due to deadlock over the state budget.
