David Bailey, a Capitol Hill Police officer who was injured in the Alexandria, Va. shooting Wednesday, threw out the first pitch in the Congressional Baseball Game a day after trading fire with James T. Hodgkinson.
Coming onto the ballfield using crutches, Bailey received the game ball from former Yankees manager Joe Torre and waved to the applauding crowd. He threw the pitch leaning on one crutch while a fellow cop held the second one.
Bailey was on House Majority Whip Steve Scalise's (R., La.) security detail along with Crystal Griner, and those at the scene credited them with saving their lives. Five were injured in the attack, and Scalise and Tyson Foods lobbyist Matt Mika remain hospitalized.
Bailey and Griner, who sustained a gunshot in the ankle, have both been released from the hospital.
