Democrat Jon Ossoff, a congressional candidate running in Georgia's sixth district, dodged a question Wednesday on when he has stood up to someone in his own party.
Republican political activist Amy Kremer asked Ossoff during a debate if he could name a time when he showed bipartisanship and held a fellow Democrat accountable. Ossoff did not answer Kremer's question but committed to holding both parties accountable if elected.
"I will be an independent voice," Ossoff said, "whether that means holding Democrats in Congress accountable or holding Republicans in Congress accountable."
He noted that he would focus on growing his district's local economy, but did not recall a single instance when he challenged someone from his own party.
Ossoff is running for the congressional seat vacated by Tom Price earlier this year A poll conducted on Tuesday showed Ossoff leading the race with 43 percent of the vote. He has so far raised more than $8.3 million for his campaign, although 95 percent of all his donors are from out of state.
