Changes to American Health Care Act Could Revive Bill

Speaker of the House Paul Ryan

Speaker Paul Ryan’s (R., Wis.) replacement to Obamacare, the American Health Care Act, may be brought back up for a vote after changes are made to it, Politico reported.

The legislation was pulled from the House floor after it did not garner enough support to pass. The House Freedom Caucus stood in opposition to the bill, saying that the replacement did not fully repeal Obamacare and did not deliver on the promises they made to the American people.

The Trump administration has been in talks with the Freedom Caucus to see what changes should be made to the legislation to get them to vote for the bill.

"One option seriously being considered by the White House, multiple GOP sources said, includes allowing governors to opt out of some Obamacare regulations on the insurance industry," the article said. "Sources stressed that the details are still being finalized, and it’s far from certain that such a change would act as a silver bullet to salvage the much maligned bill, and whether it would win over enough conservatives while also keeping centrist Republicans on board."
