MSNBC "Hardball" host Chris Matthews compared talk show host Oprah Winfrey and President Donald Trump as potential 2020 presidential candidates, suggesting that Winfrey has an edge over Trump because she has empathy and Trump doesn't.
"Right now we have a president who has no empathy for regular people and their problems. He doesn't connect with their pain," Matthews said on Wednesday.
Matthews said that Winfrey's strength is empathy, and that she "connects with people's real challenges in life."
"That's what we need right now in this country, a little empathy," Matthews added.
Winfrey appeared to suggest on Wednesday that given Trump's election, she might be able to win the presidency, the Washington Free Beacon reported.
Before Trump's election, Winfrey said she "never considered the question, even the possibility," of running for and winning the presidency. But she added that once she saw that Trump won without any governing experience, she thought, "Oh, oh."
