House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) said at a press conference on Capitol Hill on Thursday that having Steve Bannon, President Trump's chief strategist, named as a permanent member to the National Security Council is making the United States less safe.
Pelosi also called Bannon a white supremacist, a popular attack among Democrats against the senior Trump adviser, the Gateway Pundit reported.
"What's making America less safe is to have a white supremacist named to the National Security Council as a permanent member, while the chairman of the Joint Chiefs and the director of national intelligence are told, 'Don't call us, we'll call you,'" she said.
Pelosi then continued her press conference by going after President Donald Trump's executive action temporarily banning refugees and citizens of certain countries from entering the U.S.
"The public outcry towards the president's dangerous ban over the weekend was massive, and the presidency's clearly eager to shift attention away," she said. "You notice that every time something gets hot, he changes the subject. He changes the subject. He's an illusionist."
According to a Morning Consult and Politico poll, Pelosi's unfavorable rating is ten percentage points higher than that of House Speaker Paul Ryan (R., Wis.).
Her favorability rating is 29 percent, while Ryan's is 41 percent.
Bannon was previously executive chair of Breitbart News, a conservative news organization, before he left to serve as chief executive of Trump's campaign.
