The Hillary Clinton campaign has issued cease-and-desist letters to TV stations demanding that they pull ads from pro-Donald Trump PACs that say the Democratic nominee is "under investigation by the FBI."

The letters were sent on Sunday, the same day that FBI Director James Comey announced the agency would not recommend criminal charges against Clinton over her use of a private email server, CNN reported.

"These ads falsely claim Secretary Clinton is under investigation by the FBI," wrote Marc Elias, general counsel for the Clinton campaign.

The letter lists Rebuilding America Now and Future 45 as the pro-Trump PACs funding the ads.

Comey sent a letter to Congress on Oct. 28 notifying lawmakers that the FBI was investigating thousands of emails discovered on a laptop belonging to Anthony Weiner, the estranged husband of longtime Clinton aide Huma Abedin.

Elias claimed that "at no point" did the FBI "reopen" an investigation into Clinton’s emails, so "therefore the claim in these ads is provably false."

Comey had originally announced in July that the agency would not recommend criminal charges against Clinton before the FBI began looking into the newly discovered emails from Weiner's computer last month.
