Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein flew to the wrong city in Ohio on Friday when she went to give a speech, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Her speech was scheduled to take place at Capital University near Columbus, Ohio. Stein instead flew to Cincinnati. The two cities are separated by over 100 miles.
Stein, who has been campaigning as the most liberal candidate in the race, has been working to win over supporters of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) from the primaries, especially college students and millennials. Stein even offered the Green Party nomination to Sanders if he wanted it, but he declined. Stein was the Green Party candidate in 2012 as well.
The Columbus Dispatch notes that a small crowd is there at Capital University for her.
About 100 people are waiting at Schaaf Lawn on campus. It’s unclear if they will all hang around while Stein drives up from Cincinnati. It’s also unclear why she went to the wrong location.
"They just got on the road and will be two hours late. Things happen," said Aaron Suarez, who is president of Capital University Greens Student Organization and sophomore political science major from Marion.
Random Green Party speakers are taking the podium and addressing the crowd as pizzas are being ordered for the crowd.
In 2012, Stein won 0.3 percent of the votes cast in Ohio and only 0.4 percent nationally. However, in recent polls, Stein captures up to five percent of likely voters.
