State Department spokesman John Kirby could not say Thursday if Hillary Clinton ever received training for handling classified information when she became secretary of state.
A reporter asked Kirby at the State Department daily press briefing about who would have trained Clinton and when the briefings would have occurred for her. Kirby did not have any information for the reporter, but he did say usually State Department employees provide such training. Reports of this issue came up two weeks ago regarding Clinton and her aides possibly not receiving mandatory ethics training. Kirby had no further update for the press, however.
"I don’t have the dates on when those briefings might have happened, or if they happened, but that is not an uncommon practice, particularly for somebody at that level. And it’s usually people that work inside the Administrative Bureau here at the State Department," Kirby said.
"Do you have any more specifics, I guess?" the reporter asked.
"I don’t, I don’t," Kirby said.
The State Department is legally required to keep records of such training.
