Hillary Clinton struggled trying to recall her most meaningful conversation with a black friend during a press conference on Friday.
A reporter from ESPN asked Clinton to recall the "most meaningful conversation" that she has had "with an African American friend" at a convention jointly hosted by the National Association of Black Journalists and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.
"Oh my gosh," Clinton said before telling the reporter about her "crew" of friends.
"Well, could I tell you that I am blessed to have a great crew of friends?" she asked
Clinton spoke about the people who have surrounded her over the years, from her two chiefs of staff, Maggie Williams and Cheryl Mills, to motivated young people who she has encountered across the country.
Clinton said she could not "compress" all of these interactions into one conversation.
But she did say that her friends have helped her in a couple of important ways.
"They’ve supported me; they’ve chastised me; they’ve raised issues with me," Clinton said.
"They’ve tried to expand my musical tastes," she added.
The Democratic nominee then reiterated that it is difficult for her to pick one conversation "out of, you know, 50 years of conversations."
It is unclear who Clinton, 68, was talking to for the first 18 years of her life.
