Democratic presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton said Sunday that her campaign’s main slogan is "Stronger Together" in an effort to to define her candidacy’s message as Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) and Donald Trump have successfully done with concise phrasings of their own to gain support this election season.
Clinton gave her slogan on NBC’s Meet the Press when host Chuck Todd asked what the main idea of her campaign is.
"Bernie Sanders has been talking about a political revolution, a future you can believe in," Todd said to Clinton. "Obviously Donald Trump with the ‘Make America Great Again’ is one of these slogans that has taken off for better or for worse. If you could sum up, what is the big idea of your candidacy?"
"Look, we are stronger together," Clinton said in response. "We are stronger together in facing our internal challenges and our external ones. We are stronger together if we work to improve the economy ... We are stronger together if we have a bipartisan, even nonpartisan, foreign policy that protects our country."
In Clinton’s pitch for unity, she jabbed Republicans and seemed to imply that they have not proposed policies "that will actually help produce jobs like what we saw in the 1990s," when her husband, Bill Clinton, was president.
The former secretary of state said that slogans are short-lived but coming together can have a lasting effect.
"I know that slogans come and go and all the rest of it, but I look at where we are in our country together," Clinton added. "We need to unify the country. We are stronger together when we act on a set of plans and priorities that will redound to the benefit of the American people."
Many commentators and allies of Clinton have noted that, unlike Sanders and Trump, she has struggled to articulate her candidacy’s message and purpose to the American people.
