NBC: Clinton's Inability To Unite Party for General Election Is a Problem for Democrats

May 17, 2016

NBC Nightly News reported Tuesday on the chaos that gripped the Nevada Democratic Convention, and how concerns lie ahead for how well the Democratic Party can unite and have a peaceful convention in July in Philadelphia.

Correspondent Andrea Mitchell reported on the events in Nevada and the threats that have been directed at the Chairwoman of the Nevada Democratic Party from supporters of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.). Sanders' campaign released a statement responding to accusations of being a violent campaign, with Mitchell highlighting a portion of it.

"That is nonsense. I condemn any and all forms of violence, including the personal harassment of individuals," the Sanders statement said. "It is imperative that all state parties treat our campaign supporters with fairness and the respect that they have earned."

"Could that be a not so subtle warning about July's national convention?" Mitchell asked.

"The convention itself could end up being a problem for Hillary Clinton, but it's what happens afterwards if they don't have real unity that people buy into, that's the problem for her in the general election," Nevada reporter and NBC analyst Jon Ralston said.
