President Barack Obama was not the only Democrat who tried to lie to America by posing as a real sports fan during this year's baseball playoffs.
It has been revealed that a series of embarrassingly emotional tweets that came from New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio's account during the New York Mets final game on Sunday were actually written by a staffer.
These were not the type of run of the mill tweets that could usually be expected from politicians—they made it seem like de Blasio was giving followers a peek into his soul. The New York Times described the tweets as "a meditation via Twitter on faith, fandom, and the joys and pains of the playoffs."
One follower praised the tweets for offering "a lovely peek inside the heart/mind" of de Blasio. De Blasio's office now admits, however, that his followers were actually given a "lovely peek into the heart/mind" of a lowly aide.
Here is part of the series, ending with an admission that "de Blasio" had fallen "in love" with the Mets:
De Blasio then offered a series of inspirational tweets comparing the Mets to the Red Sox World Series team of 2004, ending with him stating that he personally has seen comebacks happen.
"I’ve seen it happen. I’ve been witness. I’ve been here," wrote the aide on de Blasio's account. "All of New York walks behind this squad, one game at a time."
Although this is all quite embarrassing, you have to praise de Blasio for letting an aide handle the sports talk rather than taking a page out of Obama's book and attempting to do it himself.
In just the few brief moments that Obama has felt the need to talk about sports, it has been revealed to the world that he doesn't know the rules, doesn't know any of the players, and doesn't know the name of the stadium that his "favorite" team plays in.
So it is a good thing that de Blasio didn't actually talk about sports himself. Liberals are generally terrible at talking about sports unless they can somehow tie it into a discussion about racial tensions.
