Sen. Lindsey Graham (R., S.C.) said Wednesday that he is tired of losing to Democrats, citing the weakness of the current Democratic presidential field.
"At the end of the day, folks, I am trying to solve a problem and win an election. I am tired of losing," Graham said at the undercard debate hosted by CNBC.
"Good god, look who we're running against. The number one candidate on the other side thought she was flat broke after her and her husband were in the White House for eight years. The number two guy went to the Soviet Union on his honeymoon and I don't think he ever came back," Graham said.
"If we don't beat these people, who the hell are we going to beat? Let's solve problems," Graham asked to the audience's applause.
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.), who is running for the Democratic presidential nomination and leads frontrunner Hillary Clinton in the New Hampshire Democratic primary, honeymooned in scenic Yaroslavl behind the Iron Curtain in 1988.
Sanders' honeymoon is the most poignant example of his unusual closeness to communist regimes like the USSR, Cuba, and Venezuela. Sanders used his position as mayor of Burlington, Vermont, to mount a "mostly symbolic" resistance to President Ronald Reagan's anti-communist foreign policy.
Sanders, a self-declared socialist, noted at the time of his honeymoon that the U.S. provided significantly better health care and housing to its citizens than the workers' paradise he visited. He equivocated by saying "the cost of both services is much, much, higher in the United States."
